Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park, located in Morogoro region, in the South of Tanzania, is the most accessible park from Dar Es Salaam, the commercial capital of Tanzania.
The park takes its name from the National language “Kiswahili” for the Borassus palms (Borassus flabellifer) which once grew there in profusion The plains that surround the river Mkata are place of grass of numerous species of animals, as buffalos and elephants.
Iringa Highway traversing the park for 50 km, is contributing to the high mortality of the animals along the road. In the offices of the park gate there are an exhibition that show this sad barbarism that unfortunately increases every year.
